XWorm malware control-panel flaw lets attackers take over operators’ servers through unauthenticated remote code execution

A researcher published a proof-of-concept exploit for a flaw in XWorm’s command-and-control panel that can let anyone take over the malware operator’s own server. The unauthenticated remote code execution issue affects XWorm panel versions up to 7.4; with the panel address, port, and communication key recovered from an XWorm client configuration, an attacker can impersonate an infected machine, use path traversal to overwrite a DLL file, and run code on the command server.
Why it matters: This is notable because it gives defenders and investigators a way to understand or potentially disrupt XWorm infrastructure, but it also creates a volatile environment where third parties can hijack criminal panels. Organizations tracking XWorm should update detections and analysts should handle any interaction with suspected panels carefully.

This appears to be the first concrete report here of the XWorm panel vulnerability and exploitation pathway, making it a separate malware infrastructure story rather than an update to an existing tracked item.
